CDEP is one of the key Indigenous employment programs contributing to the Australian Government’s aim of halving the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous employment within a decade.

Kava A drug made from the ground roots of the plant Piper methysticum, a member of the pepper family. Kava is consumed as a drink and its strength varies greatly. In small doses, its effects include muscle relaxation, sleepiness and feelings of wellbeing. However, long-term use of kava can lead to a range of health problems including malnutrition, weight loss and apathy. Kava is drunk at social and ceremonial occasions throughout most of the Pacific Islands. In the early 1980s kava was brought to Eastern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory as a substitute for alcohol.

Nabarlek mine Nabarlek Uranium mine was located 62 kilometres west of Jabiru in the Northern Territory. It operated from 1979 to 1989 and the site was decommissioned in 1995

Ranger mine The Ranger uranium mine and mill operate inside the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, in the Northern Territory. Ranger uranium deposits were discovered in 1969. Mining of the site commenced in 1980 and continues today
